Sally believes in the critical importance of understanding one’s lineage as a yoga teacher, and as a human being. In her classes, she regularly talks about how where you come from, and who you trained with, does not limit you, but can instead help you understand why you show up in life as you do. Building on the foundations of her extensive training, Sally is committed to ongoing education and compassionate inquiry. Her goal is to keep moving in the direction that ignites the soul and cultivates the courage to show up fully in life. For Sally, studying the Yoga Sutras and sharing in Satsang has provided the support and encouragement for continued growth. She is passionate about family, friends and yoga students, and is known affectionately for skipping over small talk and going deep with close friends and strangers alike. Sally’s commitment to studying the Yoga Sutras stems from the deep inspiration she draws from them, and works to embody in her daily life. She sees a world where people speak honest, kind and powerful words, and show up with energy and courage in each moment. We believe the Yoga Sūtra are for EVERYONE.
There is no one single or correct way to study or practice yoga. The study of yoga practice & philosophy are a lifelong journey.
We are not perfect, we don’t claim to be experts, we are not Gurus, we are ALL students. No one of us has the “right” answer.
Our intention is to be inclusive, welcoming and explore a wide diversity of perspectives. We will make mistakes, and we will assume good intentions.
We don’t disparage or speak ill of others.
We know power structures of privilege are complex, and we can only know & speak from our own direct lived experiences. There is power in acknowledging what we don’t know, and hearing the lived experiences of others.
A special note on politics and perspectives:
Our intention is to study the Yoga Sūtra in a way that is radically inclusive, accessible to everyone, and offer a sense of sharanam (Sanskrit for refuge, shelter, or resting place) from the divisive language currently dominating so much of our public discourse. We are making a conscious and intentional choice to keep this space focused on study of this ancient wisdom and how it can inform our lives today - and not offer a “political” perspective on current events. We know others have different opinions about the intersection of politics and yoga, and encourage you to pursue practice and study with teachers and in spaces that resonate with you. We hope to offer this podcast as a space of study in which we can all put aside certainty, division, and labels to connect with a focus on embodying ancient wisdom. We believe this is a path to discover what binds us together in this fascinating multitude of human experiences, and connect more deeply to the inner wisdom revealed by dedicated study of the Yoga Sutra.
We are very glad you’re here, and hope you stay a while. Namaste.
